Poem: It’s A Mad World

Creating (w)holi-ness out of cosmic chaos
the Cosmic Christ
imbues it all with love

Commanding distributive justice
over human hubris and raw power
and liberty for the oppressed

Creator, commanding God
comes down enfleshed
and models it all for us

The eternal Universal Christ
commands us to a Life together
in radical grace and love in kin-dom

It is a Mad World that disobeys
the commands of the  creator
archetype Cosmic Christ

Does God command to scare us,
to punish us for being bad,
or as Master of all Creation

God’s word is this:  turning away from Eternal Life
incurs deathliness via hubris,
raw power, control, and violence

Accept God’s invitation to Eternal Life
of (w)holi-ness and distributive justice
in radical grace and love together

The Universal Christ of all eternity
is the primal pattern of Creation and Justice
and we are always invited to return home

Look for God in the order of the Cosmos
look for God in the theophany of
relationships and authentic community

One is as close to God as one’s breath
one can only be separate in one’ own’s mind
God, That I Am, is everywhere and in everything

Poem: Like a Sleepy Child on Daddy’s Shoulder

Honoring my Dad, Herbert Stone Sr., on Father’s Day 2019

Remembering those indelible moments in time
where all coalesces into a wholeness
of truth, beauty, and goodness

That although brief and scattered
can never be lost or taken from us
and are essential for True Self and authentic being

Like a sleepy child on daddy’s shoulder
on a dark summer’s night under flickering lights
with fireflies flitting and glowing in the grass

Murmuring voices and laughter surrounds you
all the extended family gathered
like a cocoon of radical love and acceptance

Smells of cooking on the firepit fill the night
sweet honeysuckle drifts in the air
daddy’s familiar and comforting smell of home

All is camaraderie among these brothers, sisters,
parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins,
adults and children of every age joyfully together

In this kin-dom of family relations
where all is good, true, and beautiful this night
a child can rest peacefully on daddy’s shoulder

And many years later remember this moment
of their story feeling loved, at home, belonging
in wholeness, truth, and authenticity; shared with you

Poem: The Fleeting Nature of Beauty

We know it when we see it
that beauty that makes all else fade

That beauty that is a balm
to all maladies of body and soul

That beauty that makes one say
ah, if only you could stay, it would be alright

That ghostly moon in the early evening
cerulean blue summer sky

That reddish light in the catalpa tree
its’ bold relief, presence strong

Ah, beauty, you are a wonder to behold
if only for your fleeting moments, amidst the refuse

Poem: Well this is Good News! Amen.

Well this is Good News! Amen.
the faith, hope, and love of a Creator
who so loves us, is with us, and comes to us,
in so many ways

The Creator come down to us as Jesus of Nazareth
inflowing of the eternal Christ Mystery
lives upon this earth among us as a new thing
both human and divine

Think of the implications of this Good News personally and cosmically

This event in historical time, this tactile lesson, this enfleshment
of the Christ consciousness as to how we live
here and now, on earth (as in heaven)
modeling the God within us all and within all relationships

This perfect antidote
to human hubris
to suffering
to apathy
to alienation
to ego
to empire
to raw power
to control
to violence
to death culture
to captivity

Creator God, Cosmic Christ, Universal Spirit
let me see through thine eyes all things shining
the good, the true, and the beautiful

Poem: Pentecost: Christ Third Coming

Creator God comes to us in great diversity
from the beginning as the Christ Mystery
a sharing of Love of the God-Self in everything and everyone
infused with Divine purpose and spiritual energy in all Creation

Yet in our failure to grasp the Christ consciousness
and life together in diverse communities of
life, love, and faith, comes the reconsecration
of the baptismal Flood and the humbling at Babel

Yet Creator God comes again in our very presence
Jesus, a new thing, both divine and human
come as a tactile lesson of being and living as God in us,
radical grace and love, as alternative to human’s dominant raw power

Yet in this world of the Roman Empire and captive Israel
the Empire’s power, control, and violence confounds
our very eyes and ears to the Christ consciousness enfleshed
and the death machine, we, murder him on the cross

Yet our failure and the suffering of that time cannot deny what is to come
Creator God reigns down tongues of fire, the Holy Spirit, equally
upon us all Beloved children, its’ Christ consciousness uniting and lifting us
in our great diversity of unique belonging and sharing in Beloved community

And here and now still in the great flow of the Christ mystery
Creator God imbues us with Christ consciousness
incarnate beings both human and divine in eternal life
in a Cosmos of Light, Love, and Liberation which we must awaken

One thing in its’ great loving expressions of diversity
across all time and space of the great Cosmic flow
and yet specifically concrete in our daily social reality
here, now, and forever sharing Christ consciousness together in kin-dom

Poem: When Religion is too Small a Thing *

Religion is mostly too small a thing
to grasp the faith, hope, and love
of the Creator, Universal Christ

Too often human’s futile attempt
at earning grace and personal salvation
ending in personal hubris and clannishness

We piously pray and wait
for that which has already come three times
in the creation, Jesus, and the beloved community

God is both personal and universal
the eternal Christ mystery from the beginning
permeating everyone and everything

Getting beyond the merely
personal, human, and parochial
to include the universal, divine, and cosmic

God loves things by becoming them
making them visible, united, and shareable
thus the cosmology of the Universal Christ

Belonging in this flow, all in One
self-emptying and infilling
death and resurrection

O my soul. let me be in you now
looking out at the things you made
all things shining **

Light Beams Flood the Entryway by Herb Stone

Poem: Yahweh, the God Who Delivers*

“I am Yahweh your God
who brought you out of the land of Egypt
out of the land of slavery
you shall have no other gods before me”**

And so the one true God, I Am, utters
the divine maxim of Light, Liberation, Life and Love
for all eternity, the Alpha and the Omega,
and for all peoples of the neighborly kin-dom

The Lord God told Jeremiah
“Do not be afraid of them,
for I am with you to deliver You”***
and without fear, he went, he stood, and he spoke

God frees from burden and slavery
God brings up out of the chaos
God delivers from danger
God redeems out of exile

Yes, Yahweh is the God of action
that is intentionally purposeful
who intrudes and interrupts
who transforms personally, socially,  cosmically

God outmatches the powers of oppression
in our lives, in human systems, and in the cosmos
both materially and spiritually
directly and through recruited  human agency

From ancient times and still today
from Pharaoh  through tyrant presidents  and beyond
from Egypt’s slavery through todays’
empires of military-technological death

You!  be a witness, now, of this enduring testimony
of hope and courage, here, in the face of every
absolutizing power which resists the intentions
of God’s Light, Liberation, Life and Love

This poem is inspired from reading Walter Brueggemann’s ‘Theology of the Old Testament.’

* A subtitle in Brueggemann’s book describing the specific, concrete action verbs which is the core of Israel’s testimony about their life with Yahweh.

Poem: When Walls Crumble, the Exilic Journey Begins With a Step

Visions of  great fortress rock foundations
crumbling before my eyes
the very mortar flows out like dust in the breeze

One can peer out through the gaps
until the great walls slowly begins to shift
crumbling thunderously to the ground

A great grinding dissonance
until, at long last, dust silently settling
once again stepping exiled into the solitary desert
